Summary
One in this series of late-night talk/variety programs hosted by Johnny Carson. Carson opens with a comic monologue that includes political satire about President Jimmy Carter's lobby efforts for the Panama Canal treaties and about Ronald Reagan. Ed McMahon interviews old "Aunt Blabby" (Carson), who discusses her recent senior citizen's group visit to Japan, China, and Hawaii. Other highlights include the following: Carson and McMahon chat; John Davidson sings "I Can't Smile Without You" and talks with Carson and McMahon; Davidson sings "You Light Up My Life" backwards while wearing one of McMahon's old suits; teenage actress Jodie Foster talks with Carson about her career in films, shows a film clip from her new movie "Candleshoe," and discusses her role in Martin Scorsese's film "Taxi Driver"; and Johnny Yune, a Korean comedian, delivers a monologue laced with ethnic humor. Carson's last guest is Sam Blotner, a Maine retiree who now lives in Costa Rica. Blotner, a frequent "Tonight Show" guest, brings Carson a bottle of water from the Panama Canal. This program is part of a full day of broadcasting from NBC affiliate KCST in San Diego. Includes commercials.
