Events include the following: in March of 1960, Pres. Dwight D. Eisenhower orders CIA director Allen Dulles to train Cuban exiles; on April 5, 1961, Pres. John F. Kennedy approves Dulles's "Operation Pluto," an attack by Cuban exile forces with U.S. air cover. The program includes footage of Kennedy denying U.S. involvement on April 12; footage from April 15th of a B-26 bomber raid on Cuba and of a debate in the United Nations between Cuba's Raul Roa and America's Adlai Stevenson; footage from the invasion and failure on April 17th; Sec. of State Dean Rusk's denial of U.S. involvement; footage of the surrender of invasion forces on April 19th; and public statements after the invasion by Eisenhower and former Vice President Richard Nixon.
