
CBS TUESDAY MOVIES, THE: PORTRAIT OF A REBEL: MARGARET SANGER (TV)
Summary
A drama based on the life of Margaret Sanger, a pioneer for birth control in the early 20th century. After meeting Haywood and Anita, Sanger becomes a journalist; Sanger founds an organization for birth control and begins publishing materials on sex education; Sanger's sister, Ethel, supports her but her father, Higgins, opposes her cause; Sanger is indicted for illegal mailings of birth control information; and Monsignor Soldini declares the church will fight Sanger.
Sanger leaves for England to postpone her trial; Sanger meets Havelock Ellis and decides to open a birth control clinic in the U.S.; Sanger's daughter dies; Sanger opens the clinic and is arrested; Ethel is sentenced to jail; Sanger is jailed; and Sanger returns to the clinic. Commercials deleted.
