Summary

This program is a film version of Strauss's "Salome," the one-act opera sung in German based on the work of Oscar Wilde. Highlights of this asset include Narraboth's song of his love for Salome (90), Salome's "I Long to Kiss Thy Mouth, Jochanaan," Jochanaan's rejection of Salome, Salome's "Dance of the Seven Veils" and her reward of Jochanaan's severed head, to which she sings before her own execution. This program is not subtitled. (Aired under the umbrella title of "Great Performances.")
