RIGOLETTO (TV)
Summary
A television special of a new modern version of Verdi's 1851 opera by the English National Opera, set in New York's Little Italy in the 1950s and sung in English. Producer Jonathan Miller introduces the opera which was recorded at the London Coliseum. The overture and Act I, Scene I, include highlights such as the Duke's "Mid the Fair Throng" ("Questa o Quella"); and Act I, Scene 2, highlights of which include "We Are Equals" ("Pari Siamo"), "Safely Guard This Tender Blossom" ("Veglia o Donna"), "Love Is the Sun" ("Le Il Sol dell'Anima"), and "Dear Name" ("Caro Nome").
Act II's highlights include "Somewhere I See You Weeping" ("Parmi Veder Le Lagrime") and "On Every Festal Morning" ("Tutte le Feste"). Act III's highlights include the Duke's "Woman Is Fickle" ("La Donna e Mobile"), the quartet "Fairest Daughter of the Graces" ("Bella Figlia dell'Amore"), and "Ah, Soon In Heaven" ("Lassu In Cielo").
