This profile of Zubin Mehta, the then-30-year-old conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, opens with Mehta conducting the orchestra in a performance of Mahler's First Symphony in the Hollywood Bowl. During an interview, Mehta discusses his philosophy of conducting and his great love of German music. The program includes archival photos of Mehta and his family; shows him rehearsing Richard Strauss's "Ein Heldenleben" with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and conducting Verdi's "Aida" in Rome; and provides an opportunity to see him with his family as well as his teacher, the Austrian conductor Hans Swarowsky. Mehta's father, the conductor Mehli Mehta, is shown in an interview segment and conducting the Mozart Orchestra Group of the American Youth Symphony. The program concludes with Zubin Mehta conducting "Ein Heldenleben" in performance at the Los Angeles Music Center. Commercials deleted.
