ALIVE FROM OFF CENTER: STEPS (TV)
Summary
One in this series of arts programs featuring the work of leading avant-garde artists in video, music, dance, theater, and film. This program, which includes a prologue by Laurie Anderson, features Zbigniew Rybczynski's "Steps." A group of American tourists are led into a black-and-white classic film depiction of the Russian revolution. The tour director leads the unsuspecting tourists into the "Odessa steps" sequence from Sergei Eisenstein's film "Battleship Potemkin" -- one of the most famous sequences in motion picture history -- and thus toys with the idea of reality in film.
