NINE HEROES (TV)

Summary

This documentary recounts the heroic acts of nine people who were given awards by the Carnegie Hero Fund Commission. The witnesses or the heroes themselves describe nine courageous acts, including the following: June Roberts saved a young man from drowning; Joseph Arcaris rescued a young man from the jaws of a lion; 17-year-old John McGeown, Jr., saved a family trapped in the path of a speeding train; Leo Gauthier saved two people from a burning, collapsing building on Christmas morning; Anna Martuscelli saved a man from drowning; Bridget Cahill died while saving her friend from being hit by a speeding car; Charles Melville Lewis used a small boat to rescue sailors from a large ship that sank during a violent storm; John Peter Cooney saved a drowning swimmer; and Charles Joseph Dupuis died while rescuing a woman from a runaway horse. Acquisition and cataloging of this program was made possible by a grant from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
