MUSEUM OF TELEVISION & RADIO'S 12TH ANNUAL TELEVISION FESTIVAL IN LOS ANGELES, THE: GEORGE LUCAS AND THE YOUNG INDIANA JONES CHRONICLES {LONG VERSION}

Summary

One in a series of evenings and special screenings presented as part of The Museum of Television & Radio's 12th Annual Television Festival in Los Angeles. Held this year at the Directors Guild of America Theatre Complex, the festival celebrates the excellence and diversity of American television, and is dedicated to television's creative community. This evening honors George Lucas's critically acclaimed series "The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles." Museum president Robert M. Batscha first introduces the following panelists: writer Jonathan Hales; producer Rick McCallum; composer Joel McNeely; composer Laurence Rosenthal; writer Jule Selbo; actress Ruth de Sosa; and executive producer George Lucas. Next, an episode of "The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles" titled "Paris, May 1919" is screened in its entirety. Following the screening, the panelists discuss the following topics, among others: the purpose of the show; what sparked the idea for the series; the way that the show manages to tell a fictional story in a historical context; the future of the show; the overall experience of working on the show; the order of filming; the technology that made the production possible; the budget of the series; the weather problems the cast and production team had to deal with; the complications involved in shooting the episodes in different areas of the world; the discovery of how often history repeats itself; the idea of making the show interactive; the historical accuracy of the show; the changes in the main character, Indiana Jones; the extent to which the life of the main character has been mapped out; the actual writing process; and the termination of the series.
