ORSON WELLES'S ALMANAC {LADY ESTHER PROGRAM}: THE
APPLE TREE (RADIO)
Summary
One in this dramatic anthology series featuring Orson Welles. On the occasion of their silver wedding anniversary, Frank and Stella Ashurst take a day trip to the country. While Stella sketches out on the moor, Frank takes a walk, feeling a strange emptiness -- as though something were missing from his comfortable life. The sight of an apple tree releases in Frank the memory of a girl he fell in love with as a young man in this very place. He recalls the day he met Megan -- a beautiful country girl whose innocence and pagan superstitions bewitched him. After recalling their bittersweet love affair, Frank has a chance encounter with an old farm hand who reveals the tragic truth about Megan. Includes commercials; and Welles makes a public service announcement for United States Defense Bonds.
