SANTA CLAUS IS COMIN' TO TOWN (TV)

Summary

Narrated by Fred Astaire, this animated Christmas special explains the origins of Santa Claus and other Christmas traditions. An orphan infant, known only as Claus, is adopted by a family of elves known as the Kringles; they name the child Kris Kringle and he grows up learning how to make toys for children. The evil Winter Warlock, however, refuses to let anyone cross his mountain in order to deliver toys to the children of Sombertown. Kris vows to bring toys to the children, but he must also confront the grumpy mayor of Sombertown, Burgermeister Meisterburger, who has outlawed all toys. This holiday special provides answers to some of the mysteries concerning Santa Claus, including the way that he got his name, the reason that his suit is red, his reason for moving to the North Pole, how he met Mrs. Claus, the discovery of flying reindeer, and the origin of Santa's famous laugh.
