"The Judy Garland Show"
A young Barbra Streisand showcases her talents in this
episode of GarlandÕs music/variety show. In this
program, Garland introduces her guests through her
opening number "Be My Guest" by inviting Barbra
Streisand and the Smothers Brothers to join her onstage
for the song. Jerry Van Dyke plays Garland's producer,
who needs to save money and complains about the cost of
everything on the show. Highlights include the
following: Garland sings "Just in Time"; The Smothers
Brothers perform a comedy routine that begins with the
song "I Talk to the Trees" from the Broadway show "Paint
Your Wagon" and finishes with "Dance, Boatman, Dance";
Streisand performs "Bewitched, Bothered, and
Bewildered" and "Down With Love"; and Streisand and
Garland sing a duet of "Get Happy" and "Happy Days Are
Here Again" in counterpoint. Ethel Merman pays a
surprise visit and chats with Streisand and Garland.
The three talk about Streisand's role in the upcoming
Broadway production of "Funny Girl," and Merman sings
"There's No Business Like Show Business." After
Merman's appearance, Garland sings "Howdy Neighbor,"
and Streisand and Garland sing a medley of show tunes
including "Hooray for Love," "After You've Gone," "By
Myself," "How About You?," and "It All Depends on You."
Garland concludes the show by singing a solo medley that
begins with "You Made Me Love You" and includes "For Me
and My Gal" and "The Trolley Song." Includes
commercials.
