Summary
Narrated by Charles Kuralt, this program celebrates the 83rd birthday of composer/conductor Igor Stravinsky. Stravinsky's childhood in Russia is described. Film shot during the spring of 1965 includes Stravinsky visiting with Leonide Massine, Jr., at the Paris Opera Ballet School; conducting a performance of "The Rite of Spring" with the Warsaw Opera Ballet; an interview with Stravinsky's associate Robert Craft; Stravinsky speaking with students at the University of Texas at Austin; and visiting with George Balanchine while Suzanne Farrell dances. Stravinsky conducts a piece performed by Benny Goodman, meets with Pope Paul VI in Rome, visits sculptor Alberto Giacometti in Paris, and conducts the Warsaw Philharmonic. Includes commercials.
