DIRTY SEXY MONEY: THE FACTS (TV)
Summary
On in this drama series about a troubled lawyer whose life is overtaken by his employers: a super-rich, morally-challenged family in New York City. In this episode, a reporter, Kate Scott, arrives at the Darlings' home on Thanksgiving looking to fact-check her "exposé" on the family's criminal dealings, though only Clark the chauffeur is home. He grudgingly agrees to clear up some of the rumors about the family, starting with the claim that Patrick had Tripp investigated for Dutch's murder. Clark explains that Tripp sought Nick and Brian's help when Patrick subpoenaed him to testify against the Fantini brothers, the infamous mobsters. When Patrick refuses Nick's request to drop the case, Brian confronts the brothers directly and tries to strong-arm them into accepting a deal and avoiding a trial, though Clark is soon forced to call Nick to smooth things over, and the brothers agree out of respect for Dutch. Nick then offers to put Patrick in contact with the absent Carmelita in exchange for making the deal, and he is forced to give in.
Kate next asks Clark if Karen and Simon's relationship troubles are related to Nick, but he explains that the problem lies with Simon's ongoing closeness with his glamorous ex-wife, Ama. Karen agrees to meet Simon's teenage son Elon over lunch and attempts to disinvite Ama, but she arrives anyway and shares a pointed exchange with Karen. Seeing her anger, Simon quickly promises to "limit" his relationship with Ama, and Karen is quickly won over again. Undeterred, Kate asks about the rumor that Tish attempted to flee the country while waiting to be tried for Dutch's murder, but Clark describes how she mildly violated her house arrest by walking her dog and then decided to hold the annual Ferragamo fashion show at her house rather than miss the event. Only eleven of her society friends attend the event, however, and one woman bluntly calls her out on her "unwholesome" behavior. Tish collapses and is rushed to a cushy "hospital," and Nick shoots down Nola's attempts to have her put in jail, saying that she required medical attention. Kate then turns her attention to the absent Juliet, and Clark states that she is off with Kai, the boyfriend to whom she finally lost her virginity. Juliet talks with female relatives about their "first times," though Karen is highly skeptical when Tish claims that hers was on her wedding night.
Juliet is then upset when Kai leaves immediately afterwards, sure that she has disappointed him, though Tish's advice is simply to "practice." When Juliet questions him, Kai reveals that his uncle is actually the ousted president of the Coquilles Islands, and Juliet is inspired to help the "freedom fighters" reclaim their homeland and absconds to the islands with Kai, much to Jeremy's shock. Kate then asks about a mysteriously-unaired interview with Patrick and Dan Rather, sure that it was buried because of "uncomfortable questions" regarding Ellen's death, but Clark tells her the interview was actually Patrick's attempt to qualify his statements in his book about Tish's "passionate fury," which look suspicious in light of the murder charge. Rather finds that Patrick did not write the book himself, however, and the family pulls the interview to avoid exposing his plagiarism. Kate is frustrated at Clark's lack of confirmation on any of her dirt, but he promises to be her source for future scandals if she declines to publish her current story, and she agrees. Once she leaves, however, it is implied that the inventive Clark came up with everything on the spot in order to protect his treacherous employees. Includes commercials and promos.
