CHICO AND THE MAN: READY WHEN YOU ARE, CB (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about a cantankerous garage owner and his wisecracking Chicano assistant. In this episode, Louie, Chico and Della all prepare to celebrate New Year's Eve, though Ed is characteristically unamused and declares that he hates the holiday, as it reminds him of yet another year spent without Margaret. The others reluctantly leave him to his solitary evening, but as he works on Della's truck, he strikes up a friendly conversation with a "Kissy Face" on the citizens band radio. He provides his location and she stops by for a visit, though both are taken aback at the other's age and less-than-glamorous appearances. However, the two bond when Kissy Face reveals that she too hates New Year's Eve and misses her late husband, and they soon share a drink and a dance to Margaret's favorite song.

Chico, Louie and Della soon return to the garage, feeling guilty for leaving Ed alone, but he is nowhere to be found and they quickly deduce that he has headed out on the open road with a new lady friend. Worried about his safety, they attempt to contact him over the radio, but Kissy Face and "Huggy Body" happily declare that they are headed for Vegas, much to the others' shock. The pair soon returns to the garage, however, bringing along a number of other CB enthusiasts and "lonely souls" from the road for an impromptu party. Relieved to see that Ed is no longer lonely, Chico, Della and Louie count down to midnight and celebrate the new year with their eccentric new friends. Commercials deleted.
