Summary

The first of two episodes on this tape. One in this satirical soap opera series about Mary Hartman, a housewife from Fernwood, Ohio. In this episode, Mary and Loretta talk about the sex life of Merle Jeeter and that of Ed and Howard McCullough; Loretta is depressed by the lukewarm press reception of her song "Vitamin L"; Charlie is upset that Loretta has not resigned from the Worldwide Missionary Center; Martha discovers that her father is a Choctaw named Billy Twelvetrees; Tom invites Mary to dinner to celebrate his new job at Peterson's Hardware Store, but the mention of Dennis Foley sours the evening; Cathy and Clete have dinner with the Shumways; and Mary is interviewed as part of a search for the "typical American consumer housewife." Commercials deleted.
