This animated special focuses on the unique observations of a precocious little girl named Edith Ann. In this program, Edith Ann's hometown of Edgetown is named as one of the worst places to live in America. Edith Ann rehearses for her school Christmas play, to be performed in honor of six-year-old classmate Tim O'Neil, the victim of a recent drive-by shooting. Then, Edith Ann reveals to her parents that sister Irene has gotten another tattoo. They angrily confront their teenage daughter. At school, Edith Ann and her classmates rehearse, directed by Dr. Lopez. Meanwhile, Irene goes back to the tattoo parlor, asking if she can stay there for a while, but the owners refuse. Realizing that Irene has run away, Edith Ann worries about where her sister has gone. The next day, Edith Ann goes to Dr. Lopez, blaming herself for Irene having run away. Edith Ann wants to right her wrong and begins a strategy to lure Irene home. Meanwhile, Irene wanders alone on the dangerous streets. On the night of the play, Edith Ann and her classmates struggle through their performance. Meanwhile, Dr. Lopez battles her smoking addiction, which causes her to get locked in an office. Edith Ann gets her classmate into a pickle by going off script when they forget their lines. With the audience angered by Edith Ann's new take on the nativity story, Edith Ann reveals her inspiration, which involves Edgetown's bad reputation and Irene's plight. Irene sees Edith's televised explanation and decides to return home. However, newscaster Ed Edwards reports that Tim has fallen into a coma. Edith decides to help Tim by bringing Tim's dog Shorty -- who recovered from the accident via a set of wheels to replace his hind legs -- to the hospital. The idea pays off: Tim regains consciousness as Shorty licks his face. Finally, Edith Ann offers her "that's the truth" thoughts on Christmas and life. Includes commercials.
