JACK PAAR PROGRAM, THE {WOODY ALLEN, ROBERT MERRILL, JONATHAN WINTERS} (TV)

Summary

One in this series of talk/variety programs hosted by Jack Paar. Paar introduces standup comedian Woody Allen, singer Robert Merrill, comic Jonathan Winters, and shows home movies from a recent trip to Africa. Highlights include: Allen's comic remarks about his three supposed brushes with the law and various self-defense methods; Merrill sings "Vesti la giubba" from "Pagliacci"; and Winters performs as "Grandma Hops," who displays her homemade Christmas cards and reads a touching holiday poem. The balance of the program consists of Paar's travelogue of his family's trip to several countries in Africa, with extensive footage of that continent's wildlife, the customs of its peoples, and his teenage daughter Randy's interview session with similarly aged African girls about mores and politics. Includes commercials and promos. (This is a black-and-white copy of a color telecast.)
