JACK BENNY PROGRAM, THE: JACK PAAR SHOW (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series starring Jack Benny. On this program, Benny's guest is Jack Paar. In his opening monologue, Benny conforms to CBS's new policy of honesty by announcing that he is not really thirty-nine, Rochester is not really his butler, and announcer Don Wilson is not really fat. Next, Jack introduces singer Charlie Weaver, who comes on stage dressed as a CBS usher and after changing into more appropriate clothing sings "Climb Every Mountain." After the song, Jack introduces Jack Paar, who tries to convince Benny to act as a guest host on "The Jack Paar Show" while Paar is on vacation in Honolulu. Jack says that he will only host if he can have Charley Weaver as his sidekick. Paar agrees and begins to teach Jack how to host his show -- including how to fit in commercials for his seventy-eight sponsors. Weaver arrives on the set and Jack is so impressed that he signs a contract with Paar. When he discovers that Weaver is really Dennis Day in disguise, however, he fights to get his contract back. Includes commercials.
