AMERICAN FOCUS {FORMERLY FOCUS ON YOUTH}: GENE SISKEL AND ROGER EBERT (RADIO)
Summary
One in a series of programs featuring interviews with leaders from the worlds of politics, entertainment, and the news media, highlighting personalities as well as probing issues of national importance. In this installment, a panel of students interview the hosts of "At the Movies," film critics Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert, who discuss the following topics, among others: their personal chemistry, based largely on their professional rivalry; the relationship between their work in print and the condensed content of their television reviews; differences between their style of criticism and the work of critics such as Pauline Kael; their critical "blind spots"; differences in their tastes; whether their show would be more interesting if they always disagreed; whether movies can be objectively labeled "bad" or "good"; the proliferation of exploitative teenage sex comedies; the extent to which ratings are an issue for their show; the way private screenings can change one's perception of a movie; the seasonal divisions of movie releases; and the perennial status of "Citizen Kane" as the critics' choice for the best movie of all time. Includes commercials, promos, and public service announcements.
(Series title varies; this series also aired under the title "Focus on Youth.")
