HERE'S LUCY: LUCY'S REPLACEMENT (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series starring Lucille Ball as Lucy Carter, a single mother working for her brother-in-law Harry at his employment agency.
Lucy arrives at the office one morning to find a large computer console at her desk, surprising her. He explains that he is testing the device, “EXMO-III,” for his computer developer friend and hopes to lease it, and that his ultimate aim is to use it to replace Lucy altogether. Lucy is shocked and aggrieved at being replaced with a computer. However, Harry has secured another job for her at an insurance company with a higher salary, mitigating her grief somewhat. Lucy finds herself working in a highly regimented secretary pool, and is soon yelled at for being slightly behind the others in typing. She is singled out and made to practice typing on her own.
Meanwhile, Harry becomes frustrated at the many restrictions surrounding the EXMO-III’s operation and unplugs the machine in a fury. He finds himself wishing that Lucy was back, much to his own surprise. Kim comes to visit him and he claims that he is doing fine without Lucy, continuing to denigrate her. Kim also claims that Lucy is doing well at her new job. She leaves, reporting back to Lucy that Harry seems happy with his new situation. Kim comes up with the idea to sabotage the EXMO-III in an attempt to get Harry to ask for Lucy to come back, planning to enlist the aid of a boyfriend of hers specializing in electrical engineering. The next morning they sneak in to sabotage the machine and hide in the office closet when Harry enters. He attempts to utilize the EXMO-III, but it suffers several malfunctions, increasing his frustration with the device. Harry’s attempts to interface with it end with him getting injured. Lucy arrives under the pretense of picking up her possessions, and Harry hesitantly asks for her to return, and she agrees. However, Harry discovers the sabotage and confronts Lucy about it, but welcomes her back anyway, finding her far more tolerable than the EXMO-III. Commercials deleted.
