HERE'S LUCY: LUCY'S BIRTHDAY (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series starring Lucille Ball as Lucy Carter, a single mother working for her brother-in-law Harry at his employment agency.
Lucy awakens one morning to find that Kim has made her breakfast, much to her surprise. It turns out to be Lucy’s birthday, and she admits that she had forgotten about it. Kim and Craig serve Lucy breakfast in bed and insist on doing the housework for her, encouraging her to relax and enjoy herself. Lucy decides to sleep in despite realizing that Harry will be mad at her for being late to work. In private, Kim and Craig debate over what to get Lucy as a birthday present. They hit upon the idea that Lucy might appreciate a date with a man her age as a gift, and decide to consult Harry later to find someone suitable. Lucy arrives to work that afternoon and Harry is upset with her, begrudgingly wishing her a happy birthday. Kim calls Harry and convinces him to give Lucy the rest of the day off. Once she leaves, Kim and Craig arrive to ask Harry to use his employment agency to find a date for Lucy. He declines, stating that he will not use his agency as an escort service. Instead he suggests that they take Lucy out to dinner themselves, and gets the three of them a reservation at a Chinese restaurant.
That evening, Lucy, Kim, and Craig arrive at the Chinese restaurant and are seated. They discuss their order, and Lucy is surprised when the waiter cards her for ordering a drink. While waiting Craig dances with Lucy, and later all three of them attempt to eat their meals with chopsticks, albeit with great difficulty. At the end of the meal Craig discovers that he accidentally left his wallet at home, thus leaving them unable to pay for their meal. Lucy decides to feign being ill from food poisoning so that she can be sent home, allowing them to pay for the meal later. This seems to work, but on the way out they pass Harry, who reveals that he already paid for the dinner in advance as a birthday present to Lucy. He has them take their seats again for dessert; the waiter is not suspicious of Lucy’s sudden apparent recovery. Lucy is served a birthday cake, much to her delight. Commercials deleted.
