LUCY SHOW, THE: LUCY DATES DEAN MARTIN (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series starring Lucille Ball as Lucy Carmichael.

Mr. Mooney is holding a charity ball wherein he is auctioning off mementoes donated by various actors. Lucy is particularly impressed by an outfit worn by Audrey Hepburn. Mary Jane tells her that she’s set Lucy up on a blind date with Eddie Feldman, Dean Martin’s stunt double. When she learns that Eddie is nearly identical in appearance to Dean, she agrees. However, it turns out that Eddie has to work on a movie that night. Dean himself finds out about this and, decides to go on the date himself, posing as Eddie.

Dean shows up at Lucy’s place and they sit down for a chat. “Eddie” soon finds himself defending “Dean’s” career from Lucy’s disparaging comments. At the ball, Lucy and “Eddie” manage to attract attention, but the other guests lay off when they are informed of “Eddie’s” identity. Dean gets Hepburn’s outfit for Lucy at the auction, and she is overjoyed at this display. They go back to Lucy’s place and Dean sings along to “Everybody Loves Somebody” on the radio, prompting Lucy to wonder at “Eddie” having more talent than the “real” Dean Martin. A radio bulletin interrupts, saying that the real Eddie performed a heroic act on-set, revealing Dean’s ruse. Dean explains the truth; Lucy remarks that she would have gone out with him anyway. Commercials deleted.
