GERMAN RADIO SHOW, THE {KOSOFSKY ETHNIC RADIO COLLECTION -- GERMAN} (RADIO)

Summary

One in this series of music and cultural programs for German listeners in the United States, hosted by Susanne Nielsen. This installment begins with German news from the Deutsche Welle news service. News items include the status of the peace agreement in Northern Ireland; the repatriation of ethnic Albanians to Kosovo; the reform package of the German administration, which opposition parties view critically; and the Green Party's National Party Convention, which was held to discuss nuclear energy. After the news is presented, Nielsen announces that priest Karl Kafer will give the weekly prayer, after which he reads from the Bible. Selections from the operettas "Ganz ohne Weiber geht die Schose eben nicht" and "Ein Herz aus Schokolade" are broadcast, and Nielsen converses with some of her listeners. She also informs her English-speaking listeners that they should keep tuning in to her program, and she encourages them to learn German. At this point, a German folk song called "Komm in mein Himmelbett" is played. A listener then asks to hear an Elvis Presley song that has been recorded in German. Nielsen is unable to find the recording, however, and she plays Freddy Quinn's "Junge, komm bald wieder" instead. Nielsen concludes the program by reminding her listeners to tune in again. She caps off the hour by playing Karel Gott's interpretation of Andrea Bocelli's "Es ist Zeit zu gehen."

(This program is in German.)

(Station varies. This program originated in Detroit and also aired on WLVU-AM in Florida for several years. It joined its current station in 1999.)
