TODAY {FRENCH PREMIERE GEORGE BIDAL; QUEEN ELIZABETH'S BIRTHDAY; PRINCESS MARGARET'S FIANCE} (TV)

Summary

One in this series of early morning programs, featuring interviews, special features, and news. Frank Blair reads the news headlines which include: the topics of Russian propaganda and disarmament, and an unidentified flying object that appeared in the sky, possibly a giant meteor. Next, from Washington, correspondent Frank McGee discusses the possibility of legislation resulting in tax cuts, and the government's special tax relief to the oil industry. Blair then presents more news reports on the following issues: the candidacy of former French Premier George Bidal, a member of the Catholic Popular Republican party, who advocates a tough French policy in North Africa and who plans to form a new French government if elected; a shotgun rampage on a convent in New Jersey; and a "sky car" made by an aircraft company for military use. Next, Jack Lescoulie recaps the sports scores. Then, Ruth Lions, "the women's room" correspondent, discusses the following news items: women's attitude towards age; Queen Elizabeth II's thirty-second birthday today; and Peter Townsend's diaries, which were found on a Paris street, and their possible impact on his relationship with his fiancée, Princess Margaret. Garroway then gives the weather forecast and tells a humorous story about an attempt to throw away his old garbage cans. Lescoulie, Garroway, and Lions snap their fingers as a recording of Frank Sinatra singing "Just One of Those Things" plays while the cameras record waving crowds looking in through the NBC studio windows. Includes an appearance by entertainer Stubby Kaye, who throws a ball at the studio window.
