AMERICAN PLAYHOUSE: THE ROOMMATE (TV)

Summary

One in this dramatic anthology series. Based on John Updike's short story, "The Christian Roommates," this comic feature concerns two college freshmen with very different backgrounds, who share a dorm room at Northwestern University. Perfectionist Orson has his entire future mapped out for himself: he plans to follow in his father's footsteps and be the hometown doctor, and to marry his high school sweetheart. Henry, or "Hub," is a vegetarian who constantly antagonizes people, picks up girls, listens to Indian music, and practices yoga. Hub drives Orson crazy because he finds time to enjoy extracurricular activities, never has to study, and devises schemes to avoid the Oregon draft board. As Hub exposes Orson to his radically different perspective of life, Orson begins to reconsider his views about religion and his own assumptions about the world.
