SUSPENSE: LOVE'S LOVELY COUNTERFEIT (RADIO)

Summary

One in this series of dramatic thrillers. In this dramatization of James M. Cain's novel "Love's Lovely Counterfeit," James Cagney stars as Ben Grace, a gangster torn between his love for June Lyons, a reform politician's campaign manager, and his desire for money and power. In Act I, he sets up the arrest of racketeer Sol Caspar, ensuring that June's candidate is elected mayor. In Act II, Ben uses June's love for him and her new influence at City Hall when he takes over Sol's crime syndicate. The program is introduced by Robert Montgomery, who also reads an excerpt of Cain's novel between acts and talks to Cain and Cagney at the end of the show.
