Summary
In this variety special -- the original pilot for the series "The Muppet Show" -- Jim Henson's Muppets parody the proliferation of sex and violence on television. Nigel, Sam the Eagle, and Floyd, the hippie guitarist, prepare for the Seven Deadly Sins Pageant, featuring Muppets representing the sins -- Envy, Rage, Gluttony, Vanity, Lust, Avarice, and Sloth. Other highlights include the following: the faces of Mt. Rushmore trading jokes; a wrestling match in which a competitor named "The San Francisco Earthquake" displays his winning tactics; a review of the film "Return to Beneath the Planet of the Pigs"; a visit with Statler and Waldorf; the incomprehensible Swedish Chef, who demonstrates how to make a submarine sandwich; a Muppet sketch about love and flirting among birds; and an explosive musical performance by Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem. Commercials deleted.
