One in this series of interview programs hosted by David Frost. This edition features a discussion with media mogul Ted Turner at the CNN headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia. Turner begins with comments on the relationship between insecurity and ambition, and he outlines the major transitions that have marked his life. Turner then talks about his strict upbringing with his father, his fatherÕs death, and his own religious beliefs. Next comes an overview of the growth of TurnerÕs business: he began by running his familyÕs billboard company and went on to buy a struggling television station; to bring in satellite transmission to increase his viewership; to build Cable News Network (CNN); and finally to construct new cable stations around another of his aquisitions, MGM. Included are comments about his bids for CBS, about the addition of partners and his relations with his board of trustees, and about his future ambitions to add to his media empire. Turner and Frost then continue with a discussion of the following subjects, among others: the likelihood of another Depression in view of the national debt; the global environmental crisis; CNNÕs goals as an international network; the power of the media to influence world politics; TurnerÕs political heroes; the importance of family and his regrets regarding his own family life; the mission of modern man; and TurnerÕs guarded optimism that humankind will survive the current chaotic global situation.
