THAT WAS THE WEEK THAT WAS (TV)

Summary

This special presentation offers satirical revues of current affairs and cultural developments. Highlights of this program include the following: a skit in which Dan Rather presents the news on a network taken over by Ted Turner; an automobile manufacturer purchases robots to replace his manual labor force; an MTV contest winner talks about going on the road with the Pope; Nancy and Ronald Reagan discuss the problems of the day; the Big Boy mascot sings about being an endangered species in a song entitled "Mascot Genocide"; Jan Hooks presents "Biblical Bloopers, Blunders and Practical Jokes"; Ann Landers responds to a letter sent by Senator Edward Kennedy; Jesse Jackson and Bob Hope relate their views about space explorations; the first interracial marriage in South Africa is imagined; a Greek tragedy entitled "Chlamydia, Goddess of Indiscreet" is presented; Reagan and Gorbachev conduct peace talks as a song-and-dance team; a doctor presents the newly invented artificial heart; and Anne Bancroft sings about the inevitable extinction of trees. In addition, A. Whitney Brown presents his views on foreign affairs and the performers make predictions about future news events around the world. Includes commercials, promos, and an ABC News Sports Update. (This presentation is based on an NBC series of the same title that aired from 1964 to 1965. The NBC series was based on a British program that aired earlier the same year.)

Cataloging of this program has been made possible by the Bell Atlantic Foundation, 1999.
