LAVERNE & SHIRLEY: ROCK & ROLL SHOW (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about two young working women in the 1950s. In this episode, Laverne tries to cure her ulcer and is counseled by her co-worker Chuck. When Chuck says that he relaxes with music, she encourages him to join a band. At home, Carmine tries to keep Laverne from cheating on her new diet, one designed to soothe her ulcer. Later, Laverne learns that Chuck has followed her advice and started a band. The members subsequently pile into Laverne’s apartment and play a song for her. She tells them that they sound “classy” but should be playing rock ‘n’ roll. The next day, they perform again for Laverne, having taken her counsel and come up with a variation on “Louie, Louie.” Thinking that they now sound awful, she’s shocked to hear that they’ve all quit their day jobs. Carmine agrees to help coach the group. Squiggy arrives, announcing that he’s got a gig for the group in twenty minutes. At the concert, Laverne is taken aback to realize that Squiggy lied to the organizers and that Chuck’s band will be filling in for the Rolling Stones. After hearing their introduction as “A Bunch of Guys from France,” Chuck and the boys realize that they must replicate the kind of music that they’ve been hearing on the radio. Shockingly, they win the crowd over with a rousing cover, singing “(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher and Higher.” Squiggy then says that he’s got the group another gig in which they’ll sing original songs. The group then performs “The Heart Attack Dance.” Commercials deleted.
