DOCTOR WHO: THE ELEVENTH HOUR (TV)
Summary
One in a series of fantasy/science fiction programs about the Doctor, a mysterious man who travels through time in a device shaped like an English police call box.
The episode begins as the Doctor’s time-travel vehicle -- the police call box-shaped TARDIS -- is in flames and spiraling out of control over London. The Doctor, who's trying to get used to his newly regenerated body, crash lands on the doorstep of a little girl, Amelia Pond, who quickly bonds with him and asks him to repair a crack in her bedroom wall. The crack turns out to lead to an inter-dimensional prison from which “Prisoner Zero” has escaped. Before he can determine a course of action, the Doctor rushes back to his TARDIS, which will be destroyed if not repaired. The Doctor promises Amelia that he'll only be traveling for five minutes into the future.
At some point later, the smoking TARDIS reappears in Amelia's backyard and the Doctor rushes out, shouting that “Prisoner Zero is here” and Amelia needs to get out of the house. Once inside, he is knocked unconscious, and awakens to find himself handcuffed to a radiator by a policewoman, who says she now lives in the home. He directs her to a room she never noticed before, where she encounters “Prisoner Zero,” an alien eel-like creature. As she flees from the room, it emerges, having taken the form of a man and his dog. The creature’s former jailers, the Atraxi, announce that the creature must leave or the “human residence” will be destroyed. As the Doctor and the policewoman run for their lives, he discovers that the woman is not a police officer, but a “kiss-o-gram” in costume. Furthermore, she is none other than Amelia Pond, now grown up and calling herself Amy. The Doctor is shocked to learn that, instead of five minutes, the TARDIS took him twelve years into the future.
At Amy’s neighbors’ house, the Doctor deduces that the “human residence” referred to by the Atraxi is actually the entire planet Earth and that in approximately twenty minutes it will be destroyed unless “Prisoner Zero” surrenders. Amy and the Doctor run into her boyfriend, a nurse named Rory, who is photographing what appears to be walking coma patients -- actually “Prisoner Zero” in disguise. Upon interrogating him, the Doctor reasons that “Prisoner Zero” requires a “psychic link” with a living but dormant entity to create its disguises. The Doctor attempts to lure the Atraxi to his position in order to capture “Prisoner Zero,” but the plan fails and the creature escapes.
The Doctor uses the laptop of Amy’s neighbor, Jeff, to communicate with various world leaders to help them avert the world’s impending doom. He writes a computer virus that will hopefully solve the crisis, and it falls upon Jeff to help explain to the world leaders why they should listen to the Doctor. Amy and Rory enter the hospital where Rory works, only to be confronted with “Prisoner Zero” in another disguise, that of a woman and her two daughters. After the creature mocks the Doctor, he activates his computer virus, allowing the Atraxi to locate “Prisoner Zero.” To elude them, “Prisoner Zero” takes yet another form: the Doctor and Amelia as a little girl. Amy falls unconscious as it does so. Using the “psychic link” that Prisoner Zero established with the girl during the twelve years in her house, the Doctor forces the creature into its true form, whereupon it is taken away by the Atraxi, leaving the Doctor with an enigmatic warning.
The Doctor calls the Atraxi back to Earth and makes them confirm that the planet will never again be a target. He then rushes back to the TARDIS and finds it to be completely repaired. It disappears just as Amy and Rory catch up. Two years later, the TARDIS reappears in the middle of the night, and Amy runs out to meet the Doctor. He offers to take her with him, and she accepts, on the condition that she be back home by the next morning. A bridal gown in Amy's room hints at the reason for her insisting on the return date. As the Doctor and Amy consider their future together, the TARDIS launches off toward their next adventure. A preview of future episodes follows. Commercials deleted.
