WHAT'S MY LINE? {JOEL GREY} {SYNDICATED SERIES PREMIERE} (TV)

Summary

The first in the syndicated revival of this series of panel game shows in which celebrity panelists engage in witty banter as they try to guess the unusual occupations of the guests. In this episode, host Wally Bruner presides over a panel which includes actors Arlene Francis and Meredith MacRae, comedian Soupy Sales, and TV personality Gene Rayburn.

Employing only yes-or-no questions, they try to discover the vocations of Dr. Perle Epstein from New York, who is a yoga instructor. While the panelists figure out that she is involved in some kind of exercise, they are unable to get the precise answer, and Sales agrees to join Epstein as she demonstrates the simple lotus position, at which he is less adept. Next, the panelists question Henry Parcell of New Jersey, who works for Johnson & Johnson and sells diapers; they arrive at the right answer, sending Parcell home with a $45 prize.

After donning blindfolds, the panelists then attempt to guess the identity of this week's mystery guest: actor Joel Grey. Though he attempts to disguise his voice, MacRae gets the right answer quickly, and Bruner praises Grey's recent successes in the Broadway hits "Cabaret" and "George M!". MacRae, making her first appearance on the series, then briefly discusses her relatively new career in Hollywood and current work on the series "Petticoat Junction." Commercials deleted.
