JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE! {HUGH JACKMAN, TOM JONES} (TV)
Summary
One in this series of live late-night talk shows hosted by Jimmy Kimmel. This episode's guests include actor Hugh Jackman and musical guest Tom Jones.
In his opening monologue, Kimmel touches on the following topics, among others: Barbara Walters' annual "10 Most Fascinating People," including the fairly obvious #1 choice for 2008; President-Elect Barack Obama's many press conference and possible disdain for Fox News; a surprising archeological discovery involving marijuana; a fire at a nearby strip club; an attack on a city bus stopped by an unlikely hero; television personality Simon Cowell's discovery that his home has been bugged; Gary Coleman's recent legal troubles; and the recent Grammy Award nominations.
Kimmel then introduces a clip in which sidekicks Uncle Frank and Guillermo sit down with two Coca-Cola brand managers, who explain that Coke Zero has "stolen their taste" and request that Frank and Guillermo design a new advertising campaign to recapture their former customers.
The first guest, Jackman, joins Kimmel to chat about his early days in the theater, including his Tony Award-winning performance as flamboyant Australian performer Peter Allen in "The Boy From Oz"; a startling encounter with an overly enthusiastic female theatergoer; his childhood of dream of following in his accountant father's footsteps; shooting his new film "Australia" (2008) in "the middle of nowhere," accompanied by his two young children; his son Oscar's momentary interest in acting; his amusingly disastrous trip to a Los Angeles Lakers game with the easily distracted Oscar; an unusual Australian "rule" about falling off of horses; and filming the historical epic "Australia" and being teased by the crew for his dramatic shirtless scenes.
Jones then takes the stage and discusses being knighted in 2006; the "crazy older ladies" who routinely attend his concerts; his friendship with Bono, also an honorary knight, who wrote the song "Sugar Daddy" for and about him; and an amusing clip from his new television series. Jones then performs "I'm Alive" and "If He Should Ever Leave You" from his latest album "24 Hours." Includes commercials and promos.
