One in a series of seminars and screenings presented by The Paley Center for Media in New York. This seminar honors “Superman/Batman: Apocalypse,” an animated superhero film about the arrival of Superman’s cousin Supergirl, who becomes embroiled in a conflict against the evil god Darkseid. David Bushman (television curator, The Paley Center for Media) offers opening remarks before introducing the film, screened in its entirety. (Synopsis and credits not available at this time).
Gary Miereanu (publicist, Warner Home Video) moderates the following guests: voice director Andrea Romano; and voice cast Kevin Conroy (Batman).
Topics discussed include: the unique challenges inherent in the film and in other DC animated superhero films; Conroy’s long association with the role of Batman and how it leads to him being regularly recognized in public; commentary on some of the film’s voice actors, including Summer Glau (Supergirl) and Andre Braugher (Darkseid); and recollections of how Conroy was first cast as the voice of Batman in the early 1990’s.
Questions from the audience then lead to a discussion of the following topics among others: how non-voice actors initially adjust to voice acting work; the psychology of Batman as a character; the guests’ favorite episodes of “Batman: the Animated Series”; the impact of “Batman: the Animated Series” on other animated productions; the casting of voice actor Ed Asner (Granny Goodness); and Conroy’s feelings about his reputation due to being associated with Batman for many years and his experiences in New York City during the aftermath of the September 11th terrorist attacks.
