MIKE & MOLLY: PILOT {SERIES PREMIERE} (TV)
Summary
One in this television comedy series about a police officer and a schoolteacher who meet in their weight control support group and form a relationship. Mike Biggs is an overweight officer in the Chicago police department who is partnered with his friend, Officer Carl McMillan. He is trying to diet to lose weight, with limited success. Molly is an elementary school teacher who lives with her mother and sister, both of whom are insensitive to her own weight issues. Both Mike and Molly meet at their support group, Overeaters Anonymous, when Mike makes a speech about his efforts to stay on his diet and battling his self-loathing. Molly asks Mike to speak to her class about being a police officer. He agrees; when Carl asks her why he didn’t ask her out, Mike says he didn’t want to come across as desperate. Mike shows up at Molly’s class and talks about his reasons for becoming a police officer, that he was inspired by his father and his many years of service. Afterwards, Molly thanks Mike for showing up. They part ways before Mike can muster up the courage to ask her out. Mike soon becomes depressed, but Carl tries to help him out. At the next Overeaters Anonymous meeting, Molly speaks to the group about how her father enabled her destructive eating habits, and about the importance of having confidence in oneself. Afterwards, Mike talks to her in private and tries to ask her out to the aquarium, but he falls and breaks his finger before he can finish. He runs off to get his finger fixed before they can talk further. Mike, upset, decides not to call Molly back. However, he and Carl respond to a 911 call that takes them to Molly’s house, which has been ransacked. While writing up his report, Mike finally summons up enough courage to ask Molly out and she agrees. Commercials deleted.
