ROYAL PAINS: MULLIGAN (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy/drama series about Hank Lawson, a doctor who hires himself out to rich clients in the Hamptons. The episode begins as Eddie, Hank’s father, is suffering from a heart attack. Hank defibrillates him and rushes him to the hospital, saving his life. Eddie feels changed by the experience and vows to stop lying to his sons. While Eddie recuperates in the hospital, Hank continues working, serving at a local charity golf tournament. Meanwhile, Evan is approached by Boris and handed a mysterious folder; Boris wants to speak with Evan without Hank’s knowledge. Jill has entered the golf tournament alongside Jack O’Malley, a semi-professional golf player who ruined his chances of stardom by missing a crucial shot in an important tournament. He and Jill crash their golf cart and Jill is slightly injured in the process. While treating them, Hank discovers that Jack suffers from a condition called Dupuytren’s Contracture, which causes his hand to suffer deformations. Jack has not treated it because he fears taking too much time off from golf, which could ruin his ambitions of going professional permanently. Hank and Evan talk with Eddie just before his discharge and find out that he got in trouble with the SEC for committing investment fraud. He offered to cooperate with the federal government and investigate Boris for them in return for a lighter sentence. Eddie doesn’t want his sons getting involved with his legal troubles, but Evan steals his phone in order to find his lawyer. When Evan speaks to Eddie’s lawyer, he discovers that his father was convicted and was preparing to leave the state in order to avoid sentencing. However, he chose to stay and help the federal government in order to be closer to his sons. The lawyer indicates that Eddie’s sentence most likely will not be reduced. Back at the golf course, Hank arrives with a new drug that just came out on the market that could help Jack with his condition, and he administers it. Jill continues but complains of back pain. Adam arrives to talk to Divya, but she wants nothing to do with him and says it was a mistake to kiss him. Later, Jill passes out on the golf course and Hank discovers that she received an until-now undetected spider bite in the golf cart accident. While disoriented from her medication, Jill admits some lingering feelings she has for Hank. Hank takes Jack aside and bends his fingers back, finally restoring full mobility to them. Evan is participating in a hole-in-one contest to win a boat while he tries to talk to Hank about their father. Before they can discuss the matter further, Evan gets a call from Boris in the middle of his swing; he does not notice his hole-in-one as he leaves to meet him. At his meeting, Boris tries to persuade Evan to take his father out of the state. Meanwhile, Divya confesses to Hank that she kissed Adam, betraying her medical ethics. Hank forgives her and is more concerned about her own feelings. Jill arrives at Hank and Evan’s house later and informs Evan that as he is officially a golf tournament employee, he is not eligible to win the boat. Evan leaves and Hank and Jill briefly discuss their feelings for one another, but nothing comes of it. Later, Hank, Evan, and Eddie lounge on the beach. Evan tries to introduce the possibility of Eddie moving away, but Eddie is happy where he is. He admits to Hank the fact that he cannot swim to symbolize his new devotion to telling the truth. Hank decides to give his father a second chance. Commercials deleted.
