BEING HUMAN: GOING DUTCH (TV)

Summary

One in this drama/fantasy series based on the British program of the same name about three twentysomething Boston roommates: a vampire, a werewolf and a ghost. In this episode, Bishop and Aidan bring the vampires of the Dutch to the blood den and Bishop offers them beautiful women from which to feed, saying that he wants to create a “new reality” of vampire dominance. Hegeman and the other vampires violently gorge themselves on the women, however, and Bishop dryly notes their greed before informing Aidan and Marcus that there is a traitor in their midst and that they will likely soon die. Later, Aidan meets with Rebecca and tells her about Bishop’s plan to take over and bring the vampires out of hiding, but she dismisses it as ridiculous. At the hospital, Josh attempts to apologize to Nora for his disappearance and is stunned when she reveals that she is pregnant with his child. His baffled reaction bothers her and she leaves. At home, Sally is surprised by the arrival of Danny and Bridget, who have brought along a psychic to exorcise her from the house. She is upset to find that the woman’s methods work and she cannot fight back, and she begins to suffer from the effects. Hegeman talks to Marcus, revealed as the traitor, and they debate the idea of killing Bishop and replacing him with Aidan. They meet with Bishop and accuse him of breaking vampire law in order to further their “master race,” which he readily acknowledges. Hegeman orders him to “cull” his vampire family and accept a burial punishment, and Aidan encourages him to take the deal, but Bishop is unconcerned with the Dutch’s threats.

Josh suffers a nightmare about passing on his lycanthropy to his unborn child, and later talks with Aidan about the dilemma, saying that he did not think he could procreate. He says that it “feels wrong” to carry on with the pregnancy, but Aidan urges him to take advantage of the chance for a normal life. Marcus meets with Rebecca and tells her about how his brother was killed by Bishop many years ago when he refused to become a vampire, leading Bishop to “turn” him instead. He tells her that they are just “pawns” in Bishop’s master plan involving Aidan and also reveals that he was the one who killed the bullies and framed Aidan’s young friend Bernie. The Dutch reconvenes and Bishop presents them with a “snack,” and Aidan jumps in to offer a compromise and avoid war. He offers himself to be punished in Bishop’s stead, but Bishop sees this as his “son” rejecting him and flatly refuses Hegeman’s offer. Hegeman and the other vampires begin to suffer some kind of sickness, and Bishop reveals that the women on whom they fed at the blood den were dosed with juniper, poisonous to vampires. He then beheads several members of the Dutch, but Aidan intervenes and rescues Hegeman. Marcus overpowers him and prepares to kill him, but is staked from behind by Rebecca.

At the house, Bridget halts the exorcism, worrying that Sally “deserves more” than to be cast out, but Danny says that they cannot go on with her haunting them. He reminisces about his life with Sally, and Sally becomes so angry that she briefly possesses the medium, flashing back to her death, caused when an angry Danny accidentally shoved her down the stairs. He reacts furiously to seeing Sally’s ghost and she is forced from the medium’s body, and the woman leaves, returning their money and declaring that Danny deserves “whatever she does to him.” Bridget soon leaves as well, apologizing to Sally as she goes. Josh finds Nora again and explains that he thought he was unable to have children because of genetic “problems,” and she acknowledges the many imperfections in her family tree as well. They decide to deal with the pregnancy together. Elsewhere, Rebecca tells Aidan what she learned about Marcus and the bullies, and he laments that everything in his life recently “has been a mistake.” She then asks him to stake her, saying that she should have died rather than become a vampire. He is deeply distraught at the idea, but she emotionally begs him to help her and eventually he drives the stake into her heart and holds her as she thanks him and crumbles into dust.
