EASTWICK: TEA AND PSYCHOPATHY (TV)
Summary
One in this dramatic fantasy series, based on the book by John Updike, about three friends and the strange events that follow the arrival of the enigmatic Darryl Van Horne in their New England town. In this episode, Joanna complains to Roxie that her career and personal life are at dead ends, though Kat is elated to have successfully healed someone with her powers. Roxie continues drawing a strange dagger, sure that it portends a violent death. When she runs into Jamie, she breaks the news that Bun is his biological mother, but he assures her that his mother is in fact dead and that his father is none other than Darryl. Seeing his nervousness over the issue, Roxie offers to invite both Jamie and Darryl to a tell-all dinner party, though Jamie then calls Eleanor and reveals that his true plan is to force Roxie into killing Darryl with the mysterious dagger. Penny is thrilled when Jamie finally calls after a long silence, and Max visits Joanna and asks for her help in investigating Gloria's long-unsolved murder. Joanna is offended, as he previously stole her job and her story, but he points out that she is good at getting people to talk and agrees to split the credit 50-50.
Roxie invites Darryl to the dinner, and Kat cures a number of other emergency room patients with her powers. Penny speculates that Joanna is more interested in Max than she claims, and Joanna finds that Gloria died on the same day as Sebastian's supposed drowning and guesses that the events are connected. Raymond is surprised to notice Kat's suddenly-greying hair, and when she attempts to cure her son's fever, she experiences fatigue and a nosebleed. Max is flummoxed when Joanna "charms" Sheriff Teaser into handing over Gloria's case file, and Penny and Jamie spend an enjoyable afternoon in bed together, though Jamie seems distracted and makes vague comments about his important long-term plans finally coming to fruition. Joanna and Max find that Gloria was pregnant shortly before her death, and Raymond is alarmed when he arrives home to find his children wreaking havoc and Kat deeply asleep on the couch. He threatens that he will sue for full custody if she does not "get it together," though she retorts that he should not antagonize her and causes a number of icicles to fall onto him from the roof, much to his outrage.
Max and Joanna discuss their outlandish theories about Gloria's death, and when Joanna notices that her body bore the same brand as Jamie's did in Roxie's vision, they decide to question Eleanor again. Darryl is exasperated by Jamie's presence at dinner and behaves rudely towards him, but Jamie finally tells him the story of his childhood and adoption. Darryl disinterestedly states that he is not, in fact, his father and that Jamie is just another "con artist" after his fortune, and Jamie violently attacks him, declaring that he murdered his mother. He pulls a gun on Roxie and orders her to kill Darryl with the dagger, ranting that he is evil and "not of this world" and was drawn to Eastwick because of Roxie's powers. Eleanor is surprisingly receptive of Max and Joanna, revealing that she was Gloria's midwife and Darryl the baby's father, but Max and Joanna then realize that she has dosed them with a slow-acting paralytic poison. She explains that she is working on a "very important operation" and stashes them under her floorboards to die, and they bond as they resolve to somehow escape their situation. An exhausted Kat fails to save a patient in the ER and later loses consciousness in the bathtub at home, her nose bleeding heavily. Roxie manages to stab Jamie and flee, but he catches her in her store and, declaring that she has betrayed him by "choosing" Darryl over him, moves in to kill her with the dagger.
