PALEY CENTER FOR MEDIA, THE: PALEYFEST: FALL TV PREVIEW PARTIES 2011: ABC {MAN UP, SUBURGATORY, LAST MAN STANDING} {PUBLIC SHORT VERSION}

Summary

One in this series of evenings and special screenings presented by The Paley Center for Media’s 2011 Fall TV Preview Parties. This panel covers three new shows: “Man Up,” a comedy series about three friends—Craig, Kenny and Will—who attempt to get in touch with their inner “tough guys”; “Suburgatory,” a comedy series about a single father and his daughter, both from New York City, trying to make a new life for themselves in the suburbs, and “Last Man Standing,” a comedy series about “man’s man” Mike Baxter and his family, consisting of his wife, three daughters, and grandson. The moderator, Michael Schneider (TV Guide magazine) offers opening remarks.

Schneider then introduces the panelists: “Man Up” executive producer, creator, and cast member Christopher Moynahan (Craig Griffith); “Man Up” cast member Dan Fogler (Kenny Hayden); “Suburgatory” cast members Jane Levy (Tessa Altman) and Jeremy Sisto (George Altman); and “Last Man Standing” cast members Hector Elizondo (Ed) and Nancy Travis (Vanessa).

Topics of discussion include: Moynahan on the “man crisis” and the recent trend of put-upon male characters on television; Elizondo and Travis on “Last Man Standing’s” views on the nuclear family and the role of men on television; Sisto on what attracted him to “Suburgatory” and how it offers him a role outside of his “comfort zone”; Levy on her recent entry into television stardom; Elizondo and Travis on the return of “Last Man Standing” cast member Tim Allen (Mike Baxter) to television; the filming process of “Last Man Standing”; Moynahan on his transition from acting to writing; Fogler on working on “Man Up”; Moynahan on including cast member Henry Simmons (Grant) as a regular character; Levy and Sisto on upcoming developments for the various characters of “Suburgatory”; Levy on working with a cast largely composed of comedians; Travis on Allen’s frequent improvisation; Moynahan on writing a part for himself on “Man Up” and how he casts himself “off to the right” of the other characters; and Fogler and Moynahan on upcoming episodes of “Man Up.”
