BEN 10: ULTIMATE ALIEN: DOUBLE OR NOTHING (TV)
Summary
Episode 36. One in this animated series about a teenage superhero who uses alien technology to transform into various alien creatures. Ben, Gwen, and Kevin investigate a stage show starring a Ben lookalike that has been growing in popularity. Upon seeing the show (a skewed and theatrical version of Ben’s struggle against Vilgax), Ben and Gwen are furious and go to confront the person responsible, which turns out to be Albedo, who claims he started the show to earn enough money to support himself while stranded on earth. He battles Ben, apparently assuming the forms of Swampfire, Big Chill, and Humungousaur, but is defeated easily. It turns out Albedo’s Ultimatrix is a nonfunctional prop and that he used a subspace communicator to recruit actual aliens into his show, pretending to transform into them. Ben, furious, wants to defeat Albedo and shut down his show, but Gwen points out that Albedo no longer constitutes a threat. Ben is convinced to let him go, particularly when Albedo announces that he will no longer be performing the stage show. Ben, Gwen, and Kevin are about to leave when the Humungousaur reveals that Albedo’s true plan was to raise enough money to construct a “doomsday bomb,” which he plans to detonate that very night. Ben and the others race to stop Albedo as he’s finishing the bomb, but Gwen points out that destroying the world would be of no benefit to Albedo and his plan is illogical. Humungousaur claims the weapon is not meant to destroy the world, but to rewrite the DNA of everyone on the planet to look like Ben. Gwen realizes that this plan also doesn’t make sense but Ben rushes in to stop him anyway. He and Albedo fight atop the bomb just before it detonates; Gwen saves Ben, Kevin, and herself from the blast. They find that Albedo has returned to his original Galvan form, which was his plan all along: the device was actually designed to modify Albedo’s own DNA so that he could not only return to his original form, but change into the Ultimatrix’s forms at will. His plan complete, he has no intention of fighting Ben and merely wishes to return to space, but soon finds that Ben’s interference is causing him to return to Ben’s form. Humungousaur reveals that he stopped Albedo’s plan because Albedo was the only person who treated him like a friend, and he was afraid of losing that should Albedo leave. Albedo blames Ben for the whole thing and attacks, but Ben beats him again. Humungousaur carries Albedo off, promising to take care of him. Ben returns home, musing that his hero status might include the dissolution of his privacy. The episode ends as the hotel where Ben fought Albedo sues Ben for damages to their property. Commercials deleted. Includes a promo for Cartoon Network’s Friday night lineup. Ending credits not included.
