MODERN FAMILY: MOTHER'S DAY (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series, a "mockumentary" about the eccentric individuals comprising three inter-related families in Los Angeles. In this episode, the families all prepare to celebrate Mother's Day, though Cam takes offense when Mitch makes him breakfast in bed, annoyed to be stereotypically cast as Lily's "mother." Jay and Phil cook dinner together as Gloria, Claire and their children head off on a hike, and the moms quickly grow exasperated with the four kids' endless complaining. Cam's worries are seemingly confirmed when they head to the park and he is hauled into a group photo as an "honorary mom," and Phil is touched when the gruff Jay briefly shows his emotional side after discovering a sweet relic of his own late mother in the recipe book. An exasperated Gloria and Claire leave their bored kids behind and head off through the canyon alone, and Claire urges Gloria to finally vent her frustrations with her so-called perfect son. Gloria admits that Manny is "persnickety" and has questionable poetry skills, but she then is horrified to find that Manny has overheard her.
Phil, worried that he has "shamed the proud lion," tries to convince Jay to open up about his feelings, and Claire attempts to smooth things over with Manny, though Gloria quickly throws her under the bus by revealing Claire's own complaints about her children. The Dunphy kids decide that Claire sabotaged her own day in order to guilt them and decide not to apologize, though Luke finds himself wavering under his mother's emotional pressure. At dinner, Mitch assures Cam that his nurturing and supportive "mom-like" qualities are only good things, and Phil spills the beans about Jay's tearful moment to the others. Annoyed, Jay tries to brush it off, but he finds himself growing emotional again as he realizes that "you only get one mom," prompting the Dunphy kids to apologize to Claire after all. Later, the holiday concludes with all of the families facing some of the less glamorous moments of motherhood. Includes commercials and promos.
