VIEW, THE {JAMES CAAN, KEANU REEVES, DEBBIE REYNOLDS} (TV)
Summary
One in this series of daytime talk shows hosted by a multi-generational group of women, moderated by actress Whoopi Goldberg and including TV personality Elisabeth Hasselbeck, comedian Sherri Shepherd and comedian Joy Behar. In this edition, the hosts discuss Shepherd's recent gig as co-host at the second Annual Steve Harvey Foundation Gala, at which Harvey was unusually restrained in his comedy, unlike guest comedian Chris Rock; their thoughts on Cindy Jackson, the author/TV personality who has undergone a world record-setting 52 cosmetic procedures; and Hasselbeck's upcoming appearance on QVC.
The first guests, actors Keanu Reeves and James Cann, then take the stage to discuss their new crime drama film "Henry's Crime" (2010), touching on such topics as their characters' unusual relationship; why Caan's character seems to prefer spending his life behind bars; Reeves' dual role as star and producer; what crime Caan might choose to commit, as he does not believe in karma; the 2008 cancellation of Caan's NBC drama series "Las Vegas"; Reeves' Canadian heritage and his decision to relocate to Los Angeles via car in his early twenties; why he opted not to change his unusual name; his thoughts on the "Sad Keanu" meme, in which a candid photo of him looking downcast has been repurposed in funny scenarios; and their involvement -- or lack thereof --)with social media and technology.
Next, iconic actress and singer Debbie Reynolds joins the hosts and comments on the recent passing of Elizabeth Taylor, who infamously "stole" Reynolds' first husband Eddie Fisher in 1958; how Reynolds and Taylor resolved their differences and became friends aboard the Queen Elizabeth 2 ocean liner; her current one-woman stage show; her upcoming appearance in the comedy crime film "One for the Money" (2012); her daughter Carrie Fisher's success with the well-known weight-loss program Jenny Craig; her vast collection of famous costumes from such classic MGM films as "The Seven-Year Itch" (1955), "Cleopatra" (1963), "National Velvet" (1944) and "The Wizard of Oz" (1939); and her decision to auction off the priceless costumes at an upcoming event at Los Angeles' Paley Center for Media, having tried for many years and ultimately failed to secure a museum space in which to showcase the items for public viewing.
Finally, fashion designer Elie Tahari takes the stage and briefly discusses his upbringing in an Israeli orphanage, his time in the Air Force and eventual arrival in New York City, where he became famous for his eye-catching designs, including the iconic tube top. Tahari then displays a number of items from his latest collection. Includes commercials and promos.
