GCB: ADAM & EVE'S RIB (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about a not-so-saintly group of Dallas women whose lives are upended by the sudden return of a newly widowed former high-school rival.

In this episode, the congregants prepare for the "annual Dallas Interfaith Barbecue Invitational" competition, though Carlene informs Heather that, as an unmarried woman, she is banned from cheering on their all-male team, "Braise the Lord." Amanda, annoyed to learn that barbecuing is apparently a "man's game," decides on the spot to create a women's team with Gigi and Laura, and Burl, retired from the competition, gives her his old smoker. Carlene plows ahead with her plans for a "faith-based housing" complex, telling Ripp that she has found a legal loophole on a reservation in Oklahoma. Elsewhere, Cricket, determined to breed her prize mare, haggles with the handsome Mason Massey for his Belmont-winning stud horse. Carlene tries to sabotage Amanda's plans by arranging a ladies' spa trip on the day of the barbecue, piously explaining that "men and women play different roles." And though Heather hits it off with charming local butcher Danny, she sadly tells Amanda that she cannot date a man who is less wealthy than she is.

Sharon is upset to learn that Zack is offering one of his cars as the prize for the barbecue contest, feeling that his foundering dealership cannot take the financial hit. A frustrated Amanda refuses Luke's help as she fights with the obstinate smoker. Cricket is flustered when she and Mason seem to generate "chemistry" – just as their horses make a love connection of their own – and Gigi and Amanda decide that they will master the smoker by using the same wood that her father used -- which turns out to be from a pecan tree on Cricket's property. Sauce expert Sharon agrees to join Amanda's team if she is permitted to keep the prize car; Carlene, busy buying up all the brisket in town, is upset to learn that she has again been voted down and her faith-based condos will have to be built in Mexico after all. Danny assures Heather that he is personally secure enough to date a wealthy woman, and Heather decides to join Amanda's cooking team.

Now desperate, Carlene breaks into Amanda's home to destroy her brisket, but finds herself trapped in a closet by the hungry Tony and Romo. Amanda, finding her meat ruined, laments that she is setting a bad example for Laura, and a guilt-ridden Carlene reveals her would-be trick and offers to supply Amanda with new brisket – if she, too, is allowed a spot on the ladies' team. On the day of the contest, Braise the Lord is shocked when "Spicy Racks" arrives to challenge them. Haughty Reverend Steve criticizes Pastor Tudor's casual attitude about the event.

Heather is surprised when her friends offer their support of her romance with working man Danny. And when Zack defends Sharon from another man's insults, a businessman decides to hire him to supply his company with "a fleet of wheels," thereby resolving the Peachams' financial troubles. The women celebrate as Spicy Racks wins the competition, and Ripp resorts to desperate measures as he tells Carlene that the condos must be in Mexico because "the Lord told him" so. Massey observes that Cricket doesn't seem to have a "healthy marriage" and plants a kiss on her. Elsewhere, Ripp secretly calls Luke, who is in Mexico, not in Austin as he told Amanda, and Luke informs him that "she" is currently in Juarez. Includes commercials and promos.
