EXPOSED {UNAIRED PILOT} (TV)

Summary

The unaired pilot for this comedic series satirizing exploitative and sensationalist news programs.

Anchors Chandler St. John and Mary Charlotte Brent open the program by assuring the audience that they will do "just about anything" to ensnare viewers' attention. First, in the "California Dreaming" segment, reporters explore what is currently "in," such as overpriced organic food, according to the ultra-cool Sunshine State. Next, a former WWII kamikaze pilot reveals the hidden "truth" behind the Japanese army's signature tactic. In "Crime Watch," Jim Junken describes the strange tale of an overworked housewife who vanished from her home, leaving behind her husband and seven children, and possibly headed for Brazil in what Junken can only conclude was a kidnapping. Next, Maine resident Errol Love declares that Vice President Dan Quayle shot him during a would-be hunting trip, though Quayle's aide Fay Olson argues that Love was engaged in highly irresponsible behavior at the time and that the veep is not to blame.

Correspondent Carrie Dealia then sits down for an interview with acclaimed comedic actor Dan Aykroyd, though he is quickly flustered by her bizarre questions about his "dark" childhood, his friendship with co-star Steve Martin, and his own failed films. She soon becomes distraught while on a tangent about her own troubled sister, but Aykroyd gamely agrees to return to the show for a follow-up. Next, Egyptologist Josef Haldanus offers his professional opinion on the phenomenon of "pyramid magic," and Jason Hart reports on the rise of "umpire groupies" at sporting events. Finally, in a segment simply titled "Report," Robin Barrie offers an in-depth – and not at all "pointless and vacuous" – analysis of a local bar frequented by many bikini-clad women. Commercials deleted.
