DON'T TRUST THE B---- IN APARTMENT 23: IT'S A MIRACLE . . . (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about Indiana native June Colburn and her adventures with her outrageous roommate Chloe in New York City.
In this episode, Chloe wreaks her usual havoc on Thanksgiving, feeling that the cheerful holiday is "fake" and refusing to go home to her parents' in the wake of her father's affair – with June. June, unable to afford the flight home, scrambles to find some volunteer work, while James and Luther put in a brief appearance at a local soup kitchen, departing as soon as they are photographed in the act. When June fails to find a charitable outlet, she is tricked into going to Chloe's parents' home after all, with Chloe assuring her that she can "level the playing field" with her mother by pretending to need a wheelchair, as Karen does. Though mortified, June goes along with the plan out of guilt. Karen immediately bonds with her husband's one-time mistress over their shared "disability."
Elsewhere, James and Luther are forced to finish their shift at the soup kitchen, and June is frustrated when Scott determinedly avoids her, refusing to discuss their brief dalliance. She finally tells Chloe that she will not be her "emotional Sacagawea" and that she and her cheating father, not the kindly Karen, are the ones causing trouble in the family. Finally, over dinner, June cracks under the pressure of her big lie and Chloe "outs" her as being able-bodied. June is horrified to realize that Karen did not actually know that June was "the whore" with whom Scott cheated. James ends up in a fight with a thieving homeless man as Chloe's parents, shocked at her choice of a roommate, give her a sizable offering to move out. June realizes that the entire debacle was simply a scam to wrest money from her parents. Chloe then gives June half of the cash to fund her trip back to Indiana for Christmas; June is touched by the strangely kind gesture. The two then stage a dramatic roommate "breakup" for Karen and Scott's sake; back at home, James happily reveals that he somehow lost two pounds on "the fattest day of the year."
