JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE {DON RICKLES, BRISTOL PALIN, MIGUEL} (TV)
Summary
One in this series of live late-night talk shows hosted by Jimmy Kimmel. This episode's guests include comedian Don Rickles, "Dancing With the Stars" contestants Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas, and musical guest Miguel. The episode opens with a segment featuring the band Kiss and their "Helping Parents to Rock" outreach program, and in his opening monologue, Kimmel touches on the following topics, among others: the arrival of Boss' Day, for which Kimmel orders sidekick Guillermo Rodriguez to buy him a satisfactory present; that evening's second presidential debate between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney; the previous night's guest Honey Boo Boo's endorsement of President Obama; the "town hall" format, featuring many undecided voters; bizarre debate rules and Donald Trump's unnecessary live-tweeting of the event; Mario Lopez and Khloe Kardashian's new roles as judges on "The X Factor"; baseball updates; an alarming game of "flaming soccer" in Indonesia; the latest bodybuilding winner in the annual Arnold Sports Festival; and the invention of a cardboard bicycle. Rodriguez then returns with a Boss' Day gift for Kimmel: a Charlie Sheen "Winning" t-shirt.
Kimmel then introduces a segment in which passersby on the street are interviewed about "last night's" presidential debate, which did not actually take place, and most interviewees assert that it was a satisfying debate with intelligent questions and that Obama was the clear winner.
Next, Kimmel announces several upcoming shows and events, including a performance at the Brooklyn Academy of Music for which many hopeful attendees have e-mailed Rodriguez with deceptive ticket requests. The first guest, Rickles, takes the stage and discusses his lack of interest in the election; his trips to Tijuana to observe the bullfights with his wife of 47 years, Barbara Sklar; his "Mr. Warmth" cell phone app, which will provide buyers with classic insults; his memories of meeting the Beatles, who were surprised by his trademark acerbic humor, when they attended his show in the 1960s; winning the Johnny Carson Comedy Award, which was presented to him by his famously taciturn "Casino" (1995) co-star Robert De Niro; and a memorable run-in with obnoxious real-estate mogul Trump.
Palin and Ballas then sit down with Kimmel to chat about Kimmel's many jokes about Palin's mother, Alaskan governor and former vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin; their disqualification from "Dancing" and their consistently low scores; their argument in a recent episode, possibly over Ballas' tardiness; and why Palin is too "boring" to be the next contestant on "The Bachelorette." As per "Live!" tradition, Rodriguez then feeds Palin's dance shoes – and Kimmel's new t-shirt – into a wood chipper.
Next, Miguel performs "The Thrill" from his new album "Kaleidoscope Dream." The program cuts off abruptly mid-song. Include commercials and promos.
