LEGO BATMAN: THE MOVIE (DC SUPER HEROES UNITE) (ANIMATED FILM)
Summary
An animated superhero film featuring LEGO versions of DC superheroes and supervillains, as Lex Luthor and the Joker join forces to oppose Superman and Batman. Batman and Superman confront Lex Luthor in his Lexcorp office, only to be seemingly killed by a kryptonite beam and by a falling storage tank, respectively. Two days earlier, Bruce Wayne receives Gotham City's "Man of the Year" award at a fundraising event in honor of his philanthropic work. Luthor, currently running for President of the United States, is in attendance and feels cheated out of the award. The Joker and a number of other villains interrupt the proceedings and rob the rich guests, leaving Luthor intrigued. Bruce Wayne changes into Batman and defeats the other villains, but the Joker gets away on a speedboat. Robin arrives and the two of them chase down the Joker to an amusement park, where eventually Batman captures him, using the Batmobile's seemingly indestructible armor plating to his advantage. The police arrest the Joker and he is sent back to Arkham Asylum. Superman arrives, apologizing for being late, but Batman merely scoffs at him. Luthor, realizing that polls indicate he will lose the upcoming election, plans to use the Joker in a plan to gain the favor of the American people and kill both Batman and Superman in one fell swoop. He breaks the Joker out of Arkham Asylum using the "Deconstructor," a weapon of his own design powered by kryptonite which can break apart "shiny black" objects, such as Batman's vehicles and equipment. Luthor offers the Joker the use of the weapon in exchange for his assistance, and the Joker accepts. As they fly away, the Joker takes the opportunity to use the Deconstructor to free many of his fellow inmates at Arkham, causing a massive riot. Luthor and the Joker raid the Ace Chemical plant while Batman and Robin respond to the crisis at Arkham. The various freed villains menace Batman and Robin all through the Arkham grounds, but they manage to recapture the villains and contain the situation at Arkham. Searching the scene, Batman and Robin find a brick energized with radiation leftover from the Deconstructor, and with the assistance of the Batcomputer determine that it came from Lexcorp, leading Batman to deduce that Luthor broke the Joker out of Arkham. They trace Luthor and the Joker to the Ace Chemical plant, although they have already left by then. In a mobile laboratory, the Joker uses stolen chemicals from the plant to create synthetic kryptonite. Batman and Robin take note of the chemicals the Joker stole and barely escape a trap set by the Joker, causing the facility to explode. Superman saves the two of them from falling to their deaths, but Batman continues to insist that he doesn't need Superman's help on his case, despite Robin's objections. The Batcomputer indicates that the stolen chemicals could be combined to create a substance similar to kryptonite, and they realize that Luthor and the Joker intend to kill Superman. Batman continues to refuse to ask for Superman's aid, unwilling to put him in danger. The Joker's synthetic kryptonite is unable to provide power to the Deconstructor, but he and Luthor use it as bait for Batman and Robin. Batman tracks them down and manages to escape with the kryptonite, but the Joker uses the Deconstructor to destroy the Batmobile. Back at the Batcave, Batman determines that the synthetic kryptonite is too dissimilar to actual kryptonite for it to have any effect on Kryptonians. However, as a precaution he places it in his secret vault filled with real kryptonite, which he keeps in case Superman ever turns evil. Luthor and the Joker track the stolen kryptonite to the Batcave. They break in and attack, using the Deconstructor to wreak havoc throughout the Batcave. They manage to steal kryptonite from the vault and blow up the Batcave. Batman finally allows Robin to call for Superman, and he helps the two of them escape the exploding Batcave. The two of them decide to confront Luthor head-on, thus returning to the scene from the beginning. Luthor reveals his plan: he and the Joker are to pilot a gigantic robot around the United States, using modified Joker gas to compel the American people into voting for him as the next President of the United States. However, after they leave it turns out that Batman and Superman are alive; they impersonated each other by switching their LEGO parts so that they could survive Luthor's trap and learn his plan. Batman and Superman fly after Luthor and the Joker's robot to stop their plan. They manage to ground the robot, but Superman is affected by kryptonite radiation and temporarily loses his powers, forcing Batman to save him. Despite this, Batman and Superman go after the robot to stop Luthor and the Joker. At a political rally, Luthor has the Joker unleash the Joker gas to mind-control the crowd, but to his surprise the Joker has double-crossed him, compelling the citizenry to vote him into office instead of Luthor. Superman and Batman catch up to the robot before it can take off again. Having regained limited use of his powers, Superman impairs the robot while Batman thinks of a plan to stop it. The Joker attempts to use the Deconstructor on Batman himself, but Robin intervenes, deflecting the blast with a newly-built brightly colored Batmobile. Batman and Robin lead the robot on a chase through the streets of Gotham, while kryptonite spills out of the robot's core from a rupture made by Superman. The spilled kryptonite is visible from the Justice League Watchtower, alerting the other members of the Justice League to the situation in Gotham. They rush to the rescue, helping Superman and Batman as the Joker attempts to topple the Wayne Enterprises tower. With their combined efforts, Luthor and the Joker are defeated, and the Justice League agrees to help rebuild the Batcave. The film ends as Brainiac locates earth, plotting some scheme of his own.
