30 ROCK: ST. PATRICK'S DAY (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about the cast and production team of a sketch comedy television show. In this episode, Jack orders the unpredictable Jenna and Tracy to stick to the script while hosting the St. Patrick's Day Parade on TV as Kenneth, no longer a page, nervously leaves the event in Hazel's hands. Liz, not a fan of the holiday, offends Jack with her disparaging comments, and he seemingly "curses" her in Irish. Later, as she attempts to spend the 17th relaxing with Criss, she is unpleasantly surprised by a visit from her ex, Dennis. Jenna and Tracy begin to argue over their billing order, and Pete exasperatedly informs Hazel that the two divas' egos must be carefully handled. Jack finds himself drawn into the "macroeconomics" of the writers' nerdy role-playing game, and Liz is annoyed when Criss shows kindness to the concussed Dennis. Tracy and Jenna's hosting duties go further awry when they both insist on reading the "Host #1" cues, and Kenneth, watching at home, tries to resist the urge to intervene.
Liz frets that Dennis is harming her relationship with Criss because of his ongoing love for her and begs Jack to remove the "curse," though Jack is too preoccupied with the game's metaphorical relevance to his fight with Kabletown to care. When Dennis boasts to Liz about his attractive new "lady," she is sure that he is lying and calls his bluff by pretending to still be interested in him, though the plan backfires when Criss observes that she can falsely tell Dennis she loves him but cannot genuinely say it to him. Al Roker takes over for Jenna and Tracy, and Jack consults a priest's advice and quickly realizes that he himself, like St. Patrick, is "just some guy" who managed to change his own luck through sheer determination. Liz is stunned to find that Dennis really has married, and Dennis points out that she has a very Irish stubborn streak herself. Tracy and Jenna decide to make up and confess their similar fears of losing their fame to one another, and Kenneth reveals that he engineered their resolution out of page-like loyalty. Jack barges back into the writers' game and declares that he will "create something from nothing" to win, and Liz finds Criss and apologizes, assuring him that she does indeed love him, all of which is caught on NBC live footage.
