30 ROCK: BELIEVE IN THE STARS (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about the cast and production team of a sketch comedy television show. In this episode, Liz prepares to head to Chicago for jury duty, having never changed her address, and Jack offers her some powerful sedatives for the flight. He then meets with embittered "tetherball Olympian" Tyler Brody, who is threatening to go public with the fact that it and several other absurd sports were staged by NBC for "morale," and when Tracy sues Jenna for defamation of character, Liz suggests that he is taking advantage of her because of her gender. Kenneth is distressed to overhear Brody and Jack's debate, having considered both men to be his "heroes," and Tracy and Jenna argue about who has it worse in society, white women or black men, and decide to create a "Freaky Friday social experiment." Liz quickly gets herself dismissed from the jury with some eccentric behavior, but is alarmed to learn of Jenna and Tracy's latest antics over the phone. On the plane home, she is stunned to be seated beside her idol, Oprah Winfrey, and begins blurting out all of her embarrassing secrets and personal problems to her.

Jack, annoyed to lose Kenneth's admiration, attempts to convince him that "life is complicated" and hard choices must be made, but Kenneth remains set in his moralistic ways. Oprah offers Liz some wise life advice and offers to talk to her unruly "children," Tracy and Jenna, for her. Back at work, Liz is horrified to see that Tracy and Jenna have dressed up as one another, complete with black- and "whiteface," to determine who has it harder in life, but assures them all that Oprah is coming to resolve the situation. Jack is further irritated when Kenneth again proves the depths of his selflessness when faced with a "life or death" situation in an elevator, but Jack finally succeeds by gifting the TV-obsessed Kenneth with a large flat-screen, forcing him to compromise his morals and "steal" cable from a neighbor. Liz is then stunned to realize that she hallucinated the conversation on the plane, thanks to Jack's strong drugs, and that her seatmate was not Oprah but a "spunky little tween" named Pam. Pam, however, manages to smooth things over between Tracy and Jenna, turning the former "frenemies" into "BFFs." Commercials deleted.
